What is the NNAT2?

The NNAT 2 (Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test - 2nd Edition) is a nonverbal ability exam for school-aged children from grade K-12. The test is comprised of 48 questions and lasts for approximately 30 minutes. The NNAT 2 has a few characteristics that make it different from other IQ tests.

No Reading Required

First, the entire test is nonverbal, utilizing only colorful, universal symbols and shapes, so reading and writing skills are unnecessary to complete the test. This also allows for a more equitable test across language and cultural differences.

Multi-level Structure

Second, the NNAT2 has a modular design and is divided into seven levels that correspond with different grade levels. However since the design is modular, the test questions can be modulated up or down by level of difficulty to within a three-month age range for younger children. That means, for example, a 5.0 yr. old child would receive different questions than a 5.6 yr. old child. Test scores are also determined using this method.
